New 12-Part Series Celebrates Independent Record Stores of the UK

A new web documentary series explores the history and culture of independent record shops across the U.K.

Behind The Counter is set to roll out over the next month with some episodes already having debuted. The documentary series is being released in 12 parts, coinciding with June’s Record Store Day festivities on June 12th and 17th.

“Each episode celebrates the unique personalities and heritage of 12 record stores from all corners of the U.K., shining a spotlight on the hardworking and music-loving record shop owners who play a vital role in bringing music fans together in their communities,” reads the press release announcing Behind The Counter.

Among the record stores featured in the series are Dundee‘s Le Freak Records and Flashback Records in London.

Behind The Counter is presented by Record Store DayClassic Album Sundays, and esteemed audio brand Bowers & Wilkins. A U.S.-based counterpart series is also featured on Classic Album Sundays’ YouTube channel, exploring shops like Los Angeles’ Permanent Records and Indy CD & Vinyl in Indianapolis.

Thus far, six episodes of both the U.K. and U.S. series of Behind The Counter have already been released, with six more episodes for each series on the way.
