The organizers of Dutch drum and bass festival Liquicity recently shared plans to move forward with their 2021 event, and things look hopeful for Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) as well. The industry conference and multi-venue festival’s potential losses will be hedged by a €300 million cancellation fund provided by the government of the Netherlands.
ADE is not the only gathering covered by fund. Any event of at least 3,000 people taking place between July 1st and the end of 2021 is also eligible. Dutch culture minister Ingrid van Engelshoven remarked that it is not “reasonable” to expect “masses can stand close together on a field” before then.
“[This fund] is a dot on the horizon for festival organizers,” she said. “They can fall back on the guarantee fund in which at least €300m has been reserved. The event industry has long come to a standstill due to Corona. Guarantee is needed to get it back on track.”
2020 marked the 25-year anniversary of Amsterdam Dance Event, which grew from 30 DJs on the bill to 2,500 in the years that followed. Guidelines imposed to curb the spread of COVID-19 forced the organizers to greatly limit the size of last year’s physical event, but they pivoted by adding two online programs: ADE Pro for ticket holders, and ADE Online for the public at large.
