New Zealand has been holding regular concerts and festival events with no safety regulations in place surrounding COVID-19.
The country has managed to virtually eliminate the spread of the virus since April, with strict containment procedures and border lock downs that led to an amazingly low infection rate. To date, in fact, the country has recorded a total of 2,186 COVID-19 cases with 25 deaths. Currently, New Zealand has a recorded 61 active cases.
With the virus almost entirely eliminated from the nation, live events were allowed to go on without COVID-19 safety measures required during the week of the New Years holiday and beyond. Rhythm and Vines in Gisborne welcomed over 20,000 concert goers, and Rhythm and Alps hosted 10,000 people for a three-day festival in celebration of its 10th anniversary.
Similarly, Bay Dreams‘ 2021 edition played host to artists like Sub Focus, Dimension, Holy Goof, and Peking Duk without safety measures on January 3rd. Artists flying into New Zealand to perform were required to undergo a 14-day quarantine period prior to the event.
New Zealand’s COVID-19 containment measures have been applauded worldwide, as the country with a population of 4.8 million people has virtually eliminated the virus from its two islands.
