Well-known U.K. drum and bass duo Ulterior Motive have announced they will break up after over 11 years of creating music together.
The announcement came via social media this week, as the duo shared plans to pursue their individual projects, Guidance Music and Submotive. Ulterior Motive cited a “challenging year” that gave them time to reflect on their individual goals and aspirations as having influenced their decision that a split was necessary.
“Thank you to everyone who has followed and supported us, helped us, played with and partied with us along the way,” the duo wrote in a joint statement. “It’s been an amazing journey that we will never forget.”
Ulterior Motive’s separation comes just after their double-single Trip Hammer / Intuition was released, with the B-side featuring stateside drum and bass artists Quadrant and Iris. Their most recent EP, The Fourth Wall Remixes, was released in 2016, followed by a slew of singles.
Guidance Music, Ulterior Motive’s record imprint, will continue to function as normal. The label has recently released music from Neve, Crimson, Walk:r, and Defex.
“We will be posting updates on the Ulterior Motive socials regarding our individual projects,” the statement closed out. “Again, thank you for all the memories.”
