A week ago, Spanish authorities announced plans to host a 1,000-person event at Sala Apolo in Barcelona as a trial run for COVID-19 rapid tests. Ibizan officials are already planning to implement the system into their new tourist corridor ahead of the 2021 summer season.
Nou Diari reports that both the Balearic and Canary islands of Spain will establish tourist corridors with testing taking place at both departure and arrival. Entrants from countries with fewer than 50 coronavirus cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the 14 days prior will not be required to test, but those from countries with more than 50 will have to test negative within 48 hours from the flight. The same will be expected of tourists leaving the islands.
The new system would greatly aid Ibizan tourism and nightlife, an industry largely halted by COVID-19 restrictions. In June, officials shared Phase 3 reopening protocols that forbid nightclubs from reopening through the remainder of 2020.
Event organizers have begun planning for nightlife to resume on the White Isle as well. Last week, The BPM Festival announced a 2021 event that would coincide with IMS Ibiza.
The COVID-19 rapid test trial run event at Sala Apolo in Barcelona will take place towards the end of October.
