Bulgarian DJ Vladimir Ivkovic and French radio host Ivan Smagghe have chronicled their introduction to IDM, techno and ambient in an upcoming compilation. IDMMEMO – A Future Of Nostalgia comprises 18 re-released experimental electronic music tracks from the ’90s. It’s due out October 23rd in a joint release between Above Board, Offen Music and Les Disques De La Mort.

Autechre, Replicant, Beautyon and Soft Ballet are but a few of the acts whose works are included in the compilation. Dissonant chords and lo-fi textures abound in the soundscapes comprising its tracklist, some of which sound just as cutting edge now as they did decades ago.

“IDMEMO would not pretend to be a representative compendium of ’90s-’00s intelligent dance music,” reads a description on the Above Board website. “It was not Vladimir Ivkovic and Ivan Smagghe’s point when they decided on the project. It is a very personal snapshot of a moment in time, when both of them were working in record shops, when they were listening to indie and electronic music.”

Born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, Vladimir Ivkovic relocated to Germany in the early ’90s. After becoming a mainstay for event brands like Selected and Substance, he held a longstanding residency at Salon des Amateurs in Düsseldorf.

Ivan Smagghe, meanwhile, has bolstered his DJ repertoire with a successful career as a radio host. Based in the U.K. by way of France, he also runs a music blog called a few things from ivan smagghe in addition to an A&R role with Kill The DJ.
