Bristol nightclub and venue Blue Mountain has been a staple in South West England’s nightlife scene for nearly three decades. The time has now come for the esteemed venue to close its doors for good, however.
In a Tuesday, August 18th Facebook post, Blue Mountain announced that the venue will cease operations in mid September. The owners of the building have apparently expressed interest in new development plans for the site, leaving Blue Mountain with no option but to shut its doors for good. What exactly those plans entail has yet to be disclosed, though Blue Mountain’s management team have wished the developers the best of luck with their new project.
The club will be unable to host any type of formal Blue Mountain send-off due to current regulations put forth in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has disallowed the venue to operate as usual. Future events that are already on the books are now cancelled, and unfortunately no plans can be put in place to host a grand finale for Blue Mountain. “We have exhausted all avenues to try to allow us to remain open,” said Blue Mountain’s management in the post.
Responses from avid Bristol clubgoers, performers, and fans of the venue have already flooded in, expressing gratitude for Blue Mountain’s storied tenure, and grieving the loss of the iconic club from the city’s nightlife scene.
Over the past 28 years, Blue Mountain has hosted a myriad of nightlife events spanning many genres of electronic music, including drum and bass, house, garage, and more. The club has played host to artists such as DJ Phantasy, AC Slater, Harry Shotta, Aphrodite and Nicky Blackmarket, among others.
