An occurrence uncommon to the White Isles injured an 82-year-old man last Friday.  The Spanish retiree was admitted to Can Misses Hospital last evening after a shark attack in the waters of Playa d’en Bossa left him with a two-inch cut on his hand.

Local authorities suspected the culprit to have been a blue shark – one of the most common species in the Meditteranean. However, two hours after the beach was evacuated their search turned up no results. Shark attacks take place infrequently enough that only six have been reported in Spain since 2014 – not a single of which happened in Ibiza.

The beaches of Playa d’en Bossa are close to superclubs like Hï Ibiza, UshuaïaSankeysSwag Ibiza and the Hard Rock Hotel. A subsequent incident involving a blue shark in the nearby Balearic island of Mallorca ended when the large fish was captured.

The shark bite victim received treatment and was released from the hospital after four hours.
