R&S Records will continue their decades-long exploration of the experimental and sublime with a cut from German producer Tension. Titled “Pure Black Skies,” it will appear on the label’s RV Trax, Vol. 5 compilation due out May 22nd, 2020.
“Pure Black Skies” sees Tension deviate from his psychedelic style of minimal techno. Distinctive hallmarks of his sound remain nonetheless, like lush atmospheres and tasteful lo-fi noise. Arriving at a point where ambient meets downtempo breakbeat, the single makes for a fitting addition to R&S Records’ celebrated catalogue.
Building Tension
Tension, who lists his real name only as “Will,” first put out music on labels like Kaputt Music, 91 Records and Nulectric Records in the mid aughts. 2016 marked the release of his self-titled debut album, a 14-song endeavor that arrived by way of Below Surface‘s techno imprint, Be Sure.
In recent years, Tension has released minimal techno-leaning efforts like Ignition and the Tribes EP. The former release came out on Take More Music Records in October of 2019, and the latter released on aspect:ratio this March.
