Maceo Plex A.K.A. Eric Estornel has served up a memorable visual accompaniment to one of his recent singles. Although “Polygon Pulse” came out as an entry on the tracklist of last year’s Solar, its official music video has only just now arrived.
In the video, a montage depicts a youth (played by Niru Anya) exploring the barren ruins of what appears to have been a present-day metropolis. He crosses paths with an older traveler (played by Ross Patridge) in a scene which contains more dialogue than what you might expect from a music video, and the two set out on a quest that takes a surprise turn at the end.
Uncharted Territory
Solar in particular had marked a dramatic creative departure for Estornel. Whereas the DJ and producer’s previous releases seldom strayed far from peak hour techno, the 11-song effort saw him try his hand at ambient, synth wave and downtempo as well – eliciting mixed reactions from critics.
Last month, Estornel revealed that he would release two IDM EPs under his Mariel Ito alias on R&S Records. The first, titled 2E KOMST came out on February 9th, and the latter has yet to see an official release.
Maceo Plex will perform next at Kingdom in Austin, Texas.
