Modern techno doesn’t typically constitute protest music, but one tastemaker has sought to use his platform to that end. American DJ, producer and Lone Romantic label boss Maceo Plex A.K.A. Eric Estornel has planted the seeds for a free show in Charlottesville, Virginia following last weekend’s clash between alt left and alt right protesters.
Estornel made his loyalties clear when tweeting about the idea today, August 17th. “Let’s do a free party in Charlottesville to promote & dance for unity & equality,” he wrote, “and fight those [Donald Trump] supporting neo nazi’s [sic].” Soul Clap, Coyu, Jesse Rose, Sian, Modeselektor and Junior Sanchez all voiced interest in participating.

Charlottesville became the topic of international controversy after a Unite the Right rally erupted into a conflict between far right protesters and far left counterprotesters. A member of the former allegedly ran a vehicle into several members of the latter, killing one in the process and reigniting tensions between the U.S.’ already polarized political dichotomy.
At present, no official details have been confirmed for Maceo Plex’s free event in Charlottesville.
