The Association for Electronic Music (AFEM) is currently running a first-of-its-kind survey exploring neurodiversity in electronic music.
Researchers are asking those in the electronic music industry diagnosed with ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia, or Tourette Syndrome to anonymously answer questions regarding their experience. AFEM will then use the results to provide information to individuals and organizations on how to better support neurodivergent coworkers.
Speaking about the survey, AFEM Regional Manager Tristan Hunt said, “For the past five years, AFEM has made championing mental health awareness central to our work. While we’re heartened to see a big increase across the industry in people’s understanding and support of mental health, the subject of neurodiversity still is new or not well known to many. AFEM’s new neuoridiversity survey aims to change that.”
Founded in 2013, AFEM is a trade organization that “promotes and preserves the best of electronic music culture and brings members together as a community to solve issues and develop commercial opportunities.”
On top of championing mental health issues, AFEM campaigns to raise awareness and help prevent instances of sexual harassment. In 2020, they released a “Code of Conduct Against Sexual Harassment and Gender Discrimination” that was authored by their Diversity & Inclusion Working Group.
