Berlin Clubs to Hold Trial Events Without Masks or Social Distancing

Six Berlin venues are slated to host indoor trial events for consenting PCR-tested adults this weekend, to determine a time frame in which the city’s nightlife can safely reopen.

Salon – Zur Wilden Renate, KitKatClub (pictured), SO36, Crack Bellmer, Festsaal Kreuzberg, and Metropol¬†will open their doors beginning Friday, August 6th at 10:00 PM local time for the trials, which aim to assess the viability of the reopening of Berlin’s nightlife sector without COVID-19 safety measures in place. Both vaccinated and non-vaccinated people will be admitted, with each taking a PCR test from a designated provider before the events commence. Participants will also take a survey after the events.

Berlin’s Senate Department for Culture and Europe is behind the test events. Officials hope to facilitate what they call a “temporary SARS-CoV-2-free cohort” in an attempt to evaluate the difficulty in maintaining social distancing and other COVID-19 safety procedures, and whether the city’s nightlife sector is ready to do away with them.

More information on the six clubs’ pilot events can be found at the Club Commission¬†website.
