Berlin Clubs to Hold Trial Events Without Masks or Social Distancing

Six Berlin venues are slated to host indoor trial events for consenting PCR-tested adults this weekend, to determine a time frame in which the city’s nightlife can safely reopen.

Salon – Zur Wilden Renate, KitKatClub (pictured), SO36, Crack Bellmer, Festsaal Kreuzberg, and Metropol will open their doors beginning Friday, August 6th at 10:00 PM local time for the trials, which aim to assess the viability of the reopening of Berlin’s nightlife sector without COVID-19 safety measures in place. Both vaccinated and non-vaccinated people will be admitted, with each taking a PCR test from a designated provider before the events commence. Participants will also take a survey after the events.

Berlin’s Senate Department for Culture and Europe is behind the test events. Officials hope to facilitate what they call a “temporary SARS-CoV-2-free cohort” in an attempt to evaluate the difficulty in maintaining social distancing and other COVID-19 safety procedures, and whether the city’s nightlife sector is ready to do away with them.

More information on the six clubs’ pilot events can be found at the Club Commission website.
