On Friday evening, Italian techno DJ and producer Joseph Capriati was hospitalized after an incident in which his father, Pietro Capriati, allegedly stabbed him with a kitchen knife. Joseph’s condition was confirmed to be stable as of Saturday, and now he’s well enough to issue a statement of his own.
“I am alive, and thank God I am able to say so,” Capriati, 33, writes from Sant’Anna and San Sebastiano hospital hospital in Caserta. “I thank all of you from the bottom of my heart, my relatives, friends, acquaintances, and the many DJs and promoters who have shown me so much affection these days. I am touched. I haven’t been able to read and reply to all the messages yet but I will do it in a few days when I get better.Until this morning I didn’t even have the strength to speak, but the doctors say the worst is over now.”
“I ask only one thing if it is possible, a little respect for my father and my family, since neither I nor any of you have the power and the duty to judge what happened,” Capriati continues. “Family dramas are the order of the day, and especially be careful of the press because, as you well know, news is often confusing and untrue.”
According to authorities, Joseph and his mother had begun to argue in their family home in Caserta over a property-related matter when Pietro, 61, stepped in. Joseph allegedly struck Pietro, prompting Pietro to attack him with the kitchen knife. Joseph underwent surgery for a punctured lung and was given a blood transfusion. Pietro was arrested for attempted murder and transferred to the prison of Santa Maria Capua Vetere.
“I forgive my father for the crazy gesture and I pray so much for him,” Joseph Capriati closed out. “Now I will think about healing. See you soon.”
