Jeff Mills Releases 9th Installment of Millsart EP Series

2020 has marked the robust revival of one of Jeff Mills‘ 20-year-old alias, Millsart. He’s released the project’s latest EP, Every Dog Has Its Day Vol. 9, via his own label, Axis Records. It arrived July 16th, 2020.

Much of what has set Millsart apart from Mills’ typical releases is present in Vol. 9. Lower tempos and undulating melodies define songs like “The Modern Ideology” and “Are You Experienced,” with the occasional instrumental sample appearing in such tracks as “The Cosmopolitan” and “Nocturnal Moves.” Some entries to the EP’s tracklist – like “A Special Kind of Red” and “Casa Da Musica” – meet the ear with more suspense than previous installments of the series.

Mills recently revealed that Axis will expand into classical, jazz and film scores. In the same announcement, he shared that he and fellow Detroit techno DJ and producer Eddie Fowlkes have a collaborative EP out on July 24th.
