Simon Patterson has proven himself a formidable purveyor psy-tech in his latest endeavor. Titled “Roll The Credits,” the single slated to come out on VII demonstrates the Irish producer’s grasp of an emerging trance subgenre.
Save for samples at the beginning and galloping kick drums underscoring the arrangement, “Roll The Credits” steers clear of common genre clichés. A testosterone-laden synth lead following the song’s effervescent breakdown straddles a line between tech trance and psytrance popular among a more experimental recent trance producers.
“Roll The Credits” is Patterson’s third original track of 2017, preceded by slower-burning singles titled “Opulence” and “Spike.” The latter song received a remix by Israeli duo Vertical Mode that came out in August.
Simon Patterson and John Askew launched VII a year ago with the intention of highlighting more obscure styles of trance. In the time since, the imprint has served as a platform for artists like Sean Tyas, Will Atkinson and Waio.
“Roll The Credits” arrives by way of VII on November 13th.
