Paul Woolford‘s Special Request alias continues to broaden the dimensions of his discography. The English DJ and producer announced that he would release an album under the moniker last month, and now a lead single from Belief System has arrived in the form of “Curtain Twitcher.”
The high-energy cut appropriately represents the range of influences typical to Special Request releases. An elevated tempo and minimalist production aesthetic hints at hard techno for much of the track, but Hoover synths help reinforce Woolford’s genre-be-damned approach to the project.
A press release regarding Belief System promises “vast layers of atmospherics, unhinged modular work [and] contact microphone recordings of icebergs cracking,” as well as “the introduction of stark soundtrack pieces.” The effort – like other Special Request releases – distinguishes itself from Woolford’s usual work by venturing outside the confines of house and techno.
