Will Atkinson‘s celebrated single from March is back with a vengeance. The Glasgow, Scotland producer’s original mix made for an exhilarating piece of uplifting trance euphoria, but WAIO has reimagined “Awake” as a dark, gritty psytrance heater.
The soaring synth melody of the source material has been transformed into a treacherous sawtooth in the German producer’s remix. The layered chords from the original still shine through the clouds for a brief stretch of time in WAIO’s version before their reverb-heavy replacements find their way back into the arrangement.
WAIO’s “Awake” remix arrived by way of VII – a label he inaugurated himself with a re-rub of Simon Patterson‘s “Smack.” Most recently, a remix of the latter artist’s 2017 single “Spike” delivered by Israeli psytrance duo Vertical Mode came out on the imprint.
