The ten-track LP will be released under the “Ron Trent presents WARM” banner as a nod to the album’s many collaborations as well as his dream of being an architect. “With WARM, through sound design, I built frameworks for the musicians, who furnished and occupied these structures,” Trent said of the LP.

Trent’s first single from the album is “Flos Potentia (Sugar, Cotton, Tobacco)” featuring Khruangbin. Other collaborators on the album include Azymuth, Gigi Masin, and Jean-Luc Ponty. “Each track was made with a guest in mind,” Trent said. “For example, when I started writing ‘Sphere,’ I immediately thought, ‘This IS [Jean-Luc] Ponty.’

What Do The Stars Say To You releases on June 17th through LateNightTales‘ sister label Night Time Stories in two versions. The standard edition comes with ten tracks, while fans can also purchase a 15-track continuous version mixed by François K.

Beginning in 1986 by experimenting with beat machines and a keyboard, Ron Trent is considered one of the pioneers of the Chicago music scene. His first release, a thirteen-minute mix called Altered States, is considered an international classic.

Kerri Chandler Announces New Album, Spaces and Places https://selector.news/2022/04/26/kerri-chandler-spaces-places/ https://selector.news/2022/04/26/kerri-chandler-spaces-places/#respond Wed, 27 Apr 2022 01:41:51 +0000 https://selector.news/?p=11453 Influential DJ and producer Kerri Chandler has announced a new album called Spaces and Places, to be released through his Kaoz Theory record label. It marks his first album since 2008’s Computer Games and will be released digitally and on vinyl.

Spanning 24 tracks, the album was produced over a four-year period in temporary studios set up at clubs such as Ministry of Sound in London, Knockdown Center in New York, and Lux Frágil in Lisbon. Each track was written and performed live on each club’s dance floor.

Speaking about why he chose to record it this way, Chandler said, “I wanted to express the love of what could be possible in capturing my productions in the venue, from the heart of the space, right on the dance floor.”

Chandler began producing music at the age of fourteen. Since the release of his first single SuperLover/Get It Off, he has released over 100 records.

The record follows a recent EP of his titled Lost & Found Vol. 1, released earlier this year. Last year, he debuted a new live show in London that shared the same name as his upcoming album.

To celebrate the announcement, Chandler released a single from the album titled “Never Through” featuring Sunchilde recorded at Printworks. Those interested can listen to the track here.

Titled Jam On This, the EP is set to release on April 22nd through Bambossa Records. The two singles shared ahead of the release are the title track and “Enjoy This Trip,” both of which combine hypnotic elements like reverb delay with chugging four-on-the-floor beats and earthy instrumentals.

Bambossa is run by Harry Romero, known as “Choo Choo” Romero, who has held residencies in Ibiza and clubs around the world. His label is known for curating Latin house producers. Its first release, a single called “Harry & Alex,” came out in 2000.

“These two need no introduction as they’ve been on the forefront of this thing we love so much
called house music,” said Romero in a statement. “It is with great pleasure to have them onboard. The vibes are undeniable on this dope EP.”

Doc Martin rose up through the Los Angeles rave scene in the early ’90s. After gaining recognition in the scene, he began touring globally and still performs at events like at Lightning In A Bottle, Desert Hearts, and others.

Starting at the age of 16, Hipp-E began his career in San Diego. His work caught the attention of record label Hooj Choons. Since then, he has toured around the world.

Around his passing in March of 2014, Knuckles and his long-term collaborator Eric Kupper worked together under the Director’s Cut moniker. Remastered for an official October release by producer and longtime Knuckles collaborator Eric Kupper, the track will come out as Knuckles’ first release, “You Can’t Hide,” celebrates its 35th anniversary. “I Want The Love Of My Own” will be released alongside a slew of remixes from other DJ International artists in partnership with The Frankie Knuckles Foundation. Proceeds will benefit Brave Space Alliance, a Chicago-based Black and transgender-run LBGTQ+ nonprofit center that supports AIDS research, school music programs, homeless LGBTQ+ youth, and other charitable causes. Merchandise from DJ International will also be made available to coincide with the single’s release.

Frankie Knuckles’ “I Want The Love Of My Own” and its remixes will be released in October via DJ International.

Tresillo Enlist Iconic House Vocalist Robert Owens for “The You That’s Inside” https://selector.news/2021/08/26/tresillo-robert-owens-you-inside/ https://selector.news/2021/08/26/tresillo-robert-owens-you-inside/#respond Thu, 26 Aug 2021 16:20:19 +0000 https://selector.news/?p=9233 Following up their debut release on Kevin Saunderson‘s KMS imprint, Tresillo have returned with a iconic house music vocalist Robert Owens in tow for a brand new single.

Owens lends his distinctive vocal stylings to “The You That’s Inside,” the latest work from Tresillo. Within the single’s release, four different mixes of the track serve as a showcase of the group’s impressive breadth of sound, combing the spectrum of house music from peak time to more melodic elements perfect for any sunrise set.

Kicking things off with the original mix, “The You That’s Inside” serves an epic string-driven groove that floats wonderfully atop Owens’ soulful blend of spoken word verses and soaring vocal melodies. The “Epic Mix” delivers on its name, elevating the single with an entrancing arpeggio that fills the gap between syncopated synth stabs.

A more dance floor-oriented vibe moves to center stage in the “Straight Up Mix,” bringing with it a rolling groove that trades the previous mix’s oscillating arpeggio for a more focused version suited for peak time in a dimly lit club. To round the release out, a “Sunrise Mix” phases out many of the percussive elements of “The You That’s Inside,” centering itself on Owens’ vocal work and airy pads that make it not only a fitting closer for the release, but for any afterparty DJ set.

Tresillo and Robert Owens’ “The You That’s Inside” is slated for release on September 17th.

CloudMasterWeed’s Anything Is Possible EP to Release via Thomas Barnett’s Visillusion https://selector.news/2021/06/30/cloudmasterweed-anything-possible-ep/ https://selector.news/2021/06/30/cloudmasterweed-anything-possible-ep/#respond Thu, 01 Jul 2021 00:13:15 +0000 https://selector.news/?p=8615 Seminal first-wave Detroit techno DJ and producer Thomas Barnett has provided a platform for French talent CloudMasterWeed‘s next release. Due out August 6th, the Anything Is Possible EP includes remixes by Barnett himself as well as up-and-comer Native 97.

The title track sees CloudMasterWeed meld his soulful style of deep house with orchestral stabs and a spoken-word sample. Barnett reimagines the single as an uplifting techno cut, whereas Native 97 opts for the understated groove of minimal house. The  breathy diva vocals and chunky bass line of “U & Me Alone” round out the EP on a memorable note.

Steeped in hip-hop culture as a dancer and emcee since the ’80s, CloudMasterWeed converted to house music after discovering Detroit artist Moodymann in the ’90s. He became a staple of Movement Electronic Music Festival from 2008 and released his debut single, “Oh Yeah,” via Soiree Records the following year.

Thomas Barnett is among the small handful of artists most closely associated with the birth of Detroit techno. In addition a credit on the 1987 Rhythim is Rhythim single “Nude Photo,” the Detroit native has released on such labels as ClimaxWarp and React.

The Anything Is Possible EP will be available for pre-order beginning July 23rd.

It arrives by way of Defected Records May 7th.

“Finally! It’s been almost a decade since I got back the music catalog that helped define my career,” Edwards wrote in a statement. “Now it’s ready for re-release, and I am very happy it will all be on Defected Records, the perfect label to share my music with old fans and a new audience.”

Born in New Jersey, Edwards derived influence from the likes of Todd Terry and Marc “MK” Kinchen in the early ’90s. His distinctive style of vocal sampling altered the evolution of UK garage and 2-step garage, affording him two separate opportunities to work with Daft Punk in the 2000s.

Resident Advisor notes that the Defected digital release will include such Todd Edwards singles as “Saved My Life,” “Dancing For Heaven,” and “Can’t You Believe.” All will be remastered and available for purchase and streaming.

Defected Records will also reissue select Todd Edwards releases in vinyl record format as well as devoting an installment of their House Masters compilation series to the producer.
