Chicago House Artist Paul Johnson in Intensive Care Unit with COVID-19

Chicago house music legend Paul Johnson has been placed in intensive care after being infected with COVID-19.

Johnson shared an Instagram video from his hospital bed where he confirmed the news that he’d been hospitalized. He later posted updates that he had been moved into the ICU.

“Shit’s taken a turn for the worse,” said Johnson in the video’s caption. “Next is to transfer me to downtown a full throat ventilator. Meaning I will not be breathing for myself.”

Johnson remains intubated as fans wait for more updates surrounding the iconic “Get Get Down” producer, taking to social media to share messages of support and well wishes. Fellow artists, including Patrick Topping, Ash Lauryn, Cynthie, Honey Dijon and others have contacted Johnson personally to wish him a speedy recovery.

Paul Johnson is a renowned Chicago house DJ and producer. He’s been active since 1984 and launched the Dust Traxx imprint in 1997 alongside Radek. “Get Get Down” is one of his most acclaimed releases, though Johnson also produced seminal records for labels like Defected Records, Peacefrog Records, Dance Mania, and many more over the span of his storied 37-year tenure.

Earlier this year, Johnson appeared on Beatport‘s The Residency with Seth Troxler in a Black History Month discussion.
