London Festival Southport Weekender Festival Changes Name

London’s Southport Weekender has been rebranded to Beautiful People.

The name change will not affect everything else about the event, according to organizers. The one-day gathering is still slated to take place as planned on Saturday, September 4th at Morden Park. This also accounts for the bigger version of the festival at Butlins in March 2022.

Revelers can expect the well-known mix of legacy house, garage, hip-hop, techno, live acts, and DJs. Arrested Development, Basement Jaxx, Grandmaster Flash, and Inner City will take to the stage, among others.

“When we did our first Southport Weekender Festival in London’s Finsbury Park, we didn’t have any plans in place for the full-blown Southport Weekender to return again and take place at Butlins,” said the organizers in a statement. “Now that we are gearing up once again with so much anticipation for Bognor in March 2022, we feel that the time is right to change the name of the festival to something more suitable and befitting of a proper bespoke London show, and of course, eliminate the obvious confusion between the two events (there’s been quite a bit…!).”

Southport Weekender launched in 1987 and quickly became famous for its holiday park setting. In the mid-’90s, the festival reached a peak with two yearly editions often sold out prior to any lineup announcement.

Due to rising costs and expectations, the organizers announced that 2015 would mark their final gathering. Two years later, the festival returned in a new form. Day happenings in Crystal Palace and London’s Finsbury Park followed.

In 2020, Southport Weekender postponed due to COVID-19. The 2021 festival is subject to regulations by the U.K. government.
