Lane 8 may be one of the more mainstream deep house artists on the market, but he’s just released a single with distinct underground appeal. The San Fransisco-born, Denver-based DJ and producer (whose real name is Daniel Goldstein) has included “March of the Forest Cat” in his sets for months, and has finally released via This Never Happened as a free download.
The conceptual core of the track is a brass lead arpeggio which arrives early in the arrangement and remains static most of the way through. The progression undergoes minimal changes as elements weave their way in and out subtly, but it makes a memorable sonic statement all the same.
Goldstein boasts releases on Suara and French Express, but Anjunabeats sub label Anjunadeep has championed his music more than any other imprint. 2016-2017 has seen the producer release a lot more songs on his own artist label, This Never Happened – “March of the Forest Cat” being the most recent example.
At the end of the month, Lane 8 will kick off the This Never Happened Gathering series with a curated event at the Mishawaka Amphitheatre in Bellvue, Colorado on July 29th. In the meantime, he’s offered up “March of the Forest Cat” as a free download here.
