On January 22nd, U.K. breakbeat, soul and deep house producer Phil Asher suddenly died at 55 of a heart attack. A crowdfunding campaign launched to benefit his son, Marvin Jupiter Asher, has amassed £14,887 more than its £10,000 target.

“In lieu of floral tributes, Phil’s family & friends respectfully request that anyone who wishes to honor PHLASH is invited to make a contribution to The Marvin Jupiter Asher Fund,” reads the original GoFundMe description. “In keeping with Phil’s humble, understated nature, it is only now that we begin to fully appreciate the impact his spirit and music has had upon on us all. The overwhelming outpouring of love and tributes that have emerged following the news of his death suggest that his reach was far greater than any of us ever imagined.”

According to 5 Magazine, Phil Asher’s productions blurred the line separating breakbeat and house. He had been active since as long as 30 years ago, but the late ’90s to early 2000s had been his most successful period as he was enlisted to remix the likes of Roy Ayers, Todd Terry and Peven Everett. His music released on such labels as Versatile Records and Strictly 4 Groovers as well as his and Luke McCarty‘s own Restless Soul.
