An altercation on a Friday KLM Royal Dutch Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Ibiza ended in the arrest of two British passengers. The dispute allegedly arose from their refusal to wear face masks.
“Two unruly passengers refused to wear their face masks, and they were bothering their fellow passengers physically and verbally,” said a KLM spokesperson. “The pilot informed the local authorities and upon arrival, both passengers were arrested. The flight safety was not compromised during the flight.”
Footage of the incident captured by another passenger was first shared by The Mic High Club via Instagram. According to their caption, the two passengers who instigated the altercation had been drinking vodka.
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has mandated the wearing of face masks on all flights since May 11th, 2020. The measure is one of many intended to curb the spread of COVID-19 as the pandemic continues to loom over nations across the globe.
According to the KLM spokesperson, all passengers had been checked for masks upon boarding and were given reminders throughout the flight.
