The owners of a Los Angeles venue called LA Party Society have allegedly hosted all-night parties for months, flying in the face of COVID-19 restrictions. In late November, the city filed lawsuit against manager Yves Oscar Jr. and companies owned by real estate investor David Taban after documenting their activity.
The suit accuses Oscar and Taban of violations of public nuisance and unfair competition laws, according to the Los Angeles Times. The illegal events allegedly date back at to at least July, and at two there were shootings that left security staff injured.
Taban is not directly named as a defendant in the lawsuit. He is involved in two separate cases, one of which is for alleged activity in an illegal dispensary adjacent to the club. Oscar, meanwhile, was detained outside LA Party Society on an outstanding warrant for sexual assault case with a pound of cannabis in his backpack, according to the suit.
The City of Los Angeles is seeking to close LA Party Society permanently and fine each defendant $2,500 per day of illegal operation for a total of up to $3.65 million. Attorneys are also reportedly trying to cut water and power to the venue.
