Two people were killed and three were injured in a deadly shooting that took place at an electronic music event in Tulum, Mexico.
On November 1st, an armed attack took place in the hotel zone of Tulum, where an electronic music event was being held at the Vagalum Beach Club. The shooting killed two people, and caused a stampede of approximately 1,000 attendees who fled the scene when the gunshots rang out.
After the shooting and stampede took place, authorities closed off the scene to make a report. The injured were rushed to the Costamed Clinic where the Ministerial Police and Quintana Roo Police heavily guarded them.
The identities of those injured in the shooting and the resulting stampede have not yet been released, but the extra security at the clinic was assigned due to one of the victims being a non-citizen. Some reports also claim that an agent of the Ministerial Police was among the injured.
The event was held despite advisement from Tulum Governor Carlos Joaquín against public gatherings on Halloween and Day of the Dead to stop the potential spread of COVID-19. Local authorities still allowed the event to be held, and reports claim that drug and alcohol use were rampant at Vagalum.
As of yet, no motive for the attack has been determined, but further investigation is being conducted by both the Tulum Ministerial Police and the Quintana Roo Police.
