A six-month mentorship initiative has been launched by Triple Threat MgmtMusic Industry Diversity Initiative (MIDI) aims to assist young Black individuals seeking to enter the music industry.

Triple Threat, a U.K. firm, has created MIDI to link aspiring Black musicians and industry professionals with mentors throughout the music scene. Included are mentorships with industry figures behind Belfast’s AVA Festival, music journalist Chal Ravens, record labels Local Action and Enhanced Music, and other partners.

The scheme will last for six months and assist participants by tailoring each mentor session to the individual’s needs. Those sessions will take place via phone call or video conference due to the current global climate surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. All U.K.-based Black participants over the age of 18 are welcome to apply for the program, whether they are already involved in the music industry, or looking to begin a career.

The program begins on November 16th, 2020, but applicants need to be sure to register before October 31st for consideration. Upon approval, participants will then receive further details before November 16th and be matched with their appropriate mentors based on the goals and aspirations they list in the application.

“Our hope is that the scheme can offer valuable support, insight, experience and contacts to young Black individuals,” Triple Threat said in a statement on the MIDI program.
