A suspicious edit has been made to one avenue of Toolroom Records‘ online presence. On April 22nd, the Facebook page belonging to the tech house record label co-founded by English DJ/producer Mark Knight amended its outward-facing name to “Toolroom Thanh Un” without any explanation.
The phrase appears to be vietnamese, but while “thanh” could mean “sound” it is used in improper context. The change isn’t reflected by any of the label’s other social media pages. Online commentators have speculated that it resulted from a security breach.
Toolroom Records Revisited
Mark Knight and his brother, Stuart Knight, founded Toolroom Records in 2003. The former’s Funkagenda collaboration, “Man With The Red Face,” and his remix of “You’ve Got the Love” were among the definitive tracks that established the label as a leader in commercial tech house.
So far in April of 2020, the label has given a home to “I’m Free To Love You” by Monki and DJ Rae as well as Knight’s own “If It’s Love” featuring Laura Davie and The Melody Men. As always, Knight has also kept up with his weekly mix series, Toolroom Radio.
Selector reached out to a spokesperson on behalf of Toolroom Records for comment but they have not responded at the time of writing.
