The 2020 edition of Awakenings Festival is the latest gathering to fall to COVID-19 concerns. The event was slated to take place June 27th and 28th, but the Dutch government has extended an event ban imposed in March that will prohibit organizers from moving forward as planned.
“It is with a heavy heart that we have to inform you that Awakenings Festival 2020 cannot take place in June,” reads Awakenings’ official statement. “Tonight the Dutch government announced the extension of its measures concerning the outbreak of Coronavirus. All events scheduled to take place until the 1st of September are called off.”

Awakenings was one of the last major festivals to postpone amid the unfolding novel coronavirus pandemic. Events such as Movement Electronic Music Festival, Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, and EDC Las Vegas rescheduled for the fall, although health experts suggest event bans may extend until after the 2021 warm season. Economic impacts of the virus reach far beyond music, affecting nearly every industry worldwide.
The statement went on to say that the festival will be postponed until June 26th and 27th of 2021. Ticket holders are promised an email in the next 24 hours that will explain the options available to them.
