Attendees of this year’s edition of Moonrise Festival Day 1 encountered an unfortunate surprise this weekend. Following warnings of severe thunderstorms, the premises of the two-day Baltimore, Maryland festival were cleared out around 6:00 PM on Saturday, August 12th.
Festivalgoers were led to the Grand Stand building of the Pimlico Race Course where Moonrise was held before the storms reached the location. Shortly after 9:00 PM, the festival resumed its scheduled entertainment. The following day, the event’s organizers posted the following statement to the Moonrise Festival Facebook page:
To our patrons,
We were all disappointed with the weather event that affected Moonrise Festival on Saturday. We would have preferred to have kept the event running but once the National Weather Service communicates a severe lightning event to the local authorities, we had no choice but to briefly stop the event while the storm passed.
We did our best to reschedule certain artists, but unfortunately due to prior travel obligations they were not able to remain on site.
Luckily we were able to restart the event as soon as the authorities cleared us. Again, we are sorry for the inconvenience.
In light of what occurred, we are now allowing anyone with a Saturday only ticket to also attend today (Sunday). If you purchased a full weekend ticket and feel this somehow diminished the value of your ticket, please put yourself in our shoes and in the shoes of patrons who came to Baltimore to enjoy one day of the event.
If you wish to communicate any other concerns with us, please contact us a info@moonrisefestival.com please understand that we are in the middle of running the festival, and responses will be delayed.
Thank you
Moonrise Festival
Mainstream EDM artists such as Kaskade, Porter Robinson and Pretty Lights were among those billed for the 2017 edition of Moonrise Festival. Last year’s installment sparked even more controversy as an alarming number of the event’s security staff were found to have been extorting attendees.
Inclement weather did not pose significant issues during the second day of Moonrise Festival 2017.
