Carlo Lio’s “Psychout” is Techno with Groove

In 2017, nearly every techno producer is wracking their brains thinking of ways to stand out without betraying the genre’s aesthetic. It’s safe to say Carlo Lio has succeeded in that regard. His new single, “Psychout,” demonstrates how greatly a few subtle tweaks can expand the dimension of a track.

A trained ear will hear what sets “Psychout” apart as soon as the song is cued up. The ever-so-slightly loose kick drum pattern gives it a swing not commonly heard in techno – and even as more sounds layer in over the course of the arrangement, the same soulful energy remains.

The single follows Lio’s Prey 4U EP, which arrived by way of Do Not Sleep Ibiza nearly a month ago. In addition to the title track, a song called “Shapeshifter” was included on the two-track effort.

“Psychout” by Carlo Lio comes out on Turbo Recordings August 4th and can be found in multiple formats here. On the same day, Lio continues the European leg of his tour with a performance at Sankeys in Ibiza, Spain.
