Out & About With Linden, a photobook documenting the ’90s queer clubbing scene in the Northern U.K., has hit its Kickstarter goal.

The book, photographed by Stuart Linden Rhodes, recounts the LGBTQ bar, pub, and club scene in Blackpool, Birmingham, Liverpool, Leeds, and Manchester throughout the ’90s. On top of never-before-seen photography, it features written contributions by artists such as Mel BPaul O’GradyBoy George, and other prominent clubbers from the period.

Rhodes’ day job was as a school teacher. At night, however, he spent his time photographing the scene all throughout the ’90s. The idea for the book came one day when, cleaning his attic, he happened upon his old photo negatives. After scanning the photos and uploading them to Instagram, he became inspired to crowdfund a photobook.

Speaking with Liverpool Echo about the project, Rhodes said, “In a way, the book is becoming a documentary of northern gay life in the 1990s and the point in time when gay culture changed from the small bars in the ’80s to the mega clubs of the ’90s.”

There will only be 500 copies of the book printed. It will be 144 pages, hardcover, and in landscape format. While its Kickstarter goal of £8,000 has been reached, the Kickstarter is still taking donations. Learn more about it and donate here.
