Technics has released the SL-1200M7L, a 50th anniversary model celebrating the industry standard turntable for DJs and audiophiles alike.
The celebratory model is a version of the SL-1200MK7, a 2019 update of the original with an improved aluminum chassis and direct drive motor. A highly sensitive S-shaped tonearm provides stronger tracking performance, and its insulators provide vibration protection (damping) even at extreme sound levels.
Other features include pitch, torque/brake speed adjustment, reverse play, and a longer-lasting LED stylus illuminator.
As an aesthetic “homage to the street culture which inspired the rise of DJs”, the SL-1200M7L comes in seven color options: black, red, blue, white, green, yellow and beige.
Tokyo-based Dommune and broadcasting platform Boiler Room are celebrating the release of the turntable with a six-hour live broadcast. Special sets from seven artists (DJ Craze, DJ Koco, Ellen Allien, Gilles Peterson, Mala, Marcel Dettmann, and Shanti Celeste) are available on their YouTube channel.
The SL-1200M7L is available for pre-order at $1,100. Limited edition accessories are also available for purchase. Find more information on the Technics website.
