Glasgow, U.K. DJ duo Optimo (Espacio) (known mononymously as ‘Optimo’) are teaming up with dance music magazine Ransom Note for a new festival called Watching Trees.
The weeklong festival runs from September 2nd-4th in “the backwoods of The Forest of Dean,” a popular countryside area roughly 2.5 hours east of London. The venue will consist of two stages and attendance is capped at 500 attendees.
As of this writing, the lineup has yet to be announced. Back in January the U.K. government lifted all COVID-19 requirements, meaning attendees will not have to show any kind of proof of vaccination for entry.
Beginning in 1997, Optimo was a weekly in Glasgow’s Sub Club on Jamaica Street that ran every Sunday night. It also is the moniker for the DJ duo of JD Twitch and JG Wilkes, who were the club’s resident DJs. After ending the event series in 2010, the two continued releasing music while touring around the globe.
“We seek to replicate the original energy and fun of the early Optimo parties,” organizers wrote on the event website. “The feeling of the first time we danced outdoors in woodlands and open fields and enjoyed the freedom of getting to know the person next to us.”
The festival is part of Optimo’s 25th anniversary celebration, with festivities set to kick off at Queens Park Recreation Grounds in Glasgow on Saturday, April 30th.
