Clubs in Berlin are set to open their doors to dancers once again on Friday, March 4th.
The news was confirmed February 22nd when German officials officially ratified the decision. Indoor dancing has been banned there since early December due to COVID-19 restrictions. Clubs in the German city of Bavaria have been closed since November 2021.
Clubgoers are not required to wear masks or social distance when clubs reopen, though the country’s “2G+” rule will be in effect. That means all attendees must be vaccinated or have recently recovered from COVID-19. They also must show a negative antigen test regardless of their vaccination status.
To celebrate the news, venues across Germany announced reopening parties. Clubcommission, an organization representing Berlin club owners, took to Instagram to announce the news, saying, “It’s official: Clubs will reopen March 4th!” Other German cities are also following suit and opening their doors as well.
German clubs have struggled to stay afloat during the pandemic. In December 2021, 11 Berlin clubs joined together to take legal action against the dancing ban.
The lifting of club restrictions comes Germany is in the middle of a spike in COVID-19 cases that seems to be on a downward trend. On February 16th, 2022, new cases peaked at 401,828. As of February 22nd, 2022, new cases are at 221,478.
