Electronic music download platform Beatport recently announced its acquisition of AMPsuite.
Launched in 2011, AMPsuite provides a suite of tools aimed at helping independent musicians (DJs, mainly) manage royalties, distribute content, and expand their audiences. AMPsuite Co-Founder and Director Keith McDonnell shared his excitement for the acquisition, saying, “Becoming part of Beatport’s extensive ecosystem will enable us to develop and bring software solutions to an even bigger audience. We’re excited to get started.”
Over the last couple of years, Beatport has steadily expanded its platform to include more and more professional products aimed at helping DJs increase revenue and growth. For example, the company introduced a tool called Beatport Hype, which helps independent artists and labels gain access to promotional tools. According to Beatport representatives, the tool has seen “rapid adoption” over the last three years.
While AMPsuite’s technology will be used to beef up Beatport’s professional tools, the former company’s existing management team will continue to provide broader distribution services to other digital retailers. The effort is spearheaded by Beatport’s Music Services Division, led by industry professional Alex Branson, who joined Beatport as Senior Vice President of Music Services in February 2022.
Beatport co-founder also commented on the merger, saying “We admire the SaaS [Software as a Service] products that AMPsuite has built and believe that our entire community of artists, labels, and distributors can benefit from a more seamless integration with the Beatport ecosystem.”
