Detroit-based producer and DJ Carl Craig is hosting a series of virtual conversations and performances titled All Black Digital: A Celebration of Black History Month.
Each week in February, Craig will sit down with intellectual figures from the electronic music world for a roundtable discussion. Scheduled events include a talk about the African-American origins of dance music and its arguable subsequent whitewashing with Make Techno Black Again representative DeForrest Brown Jr. Music professor and DJ/producer King Britt will also sit down with Craig to discuss Afrofuturism.
On February 25th, 2022, the series will culminate with a live stream from Constitution Hill, the former South African prison/military fort known for holding the likes of Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi. The programming begins at 8:00 AM PST with one last roundtable discussion (guests to be announced) followed by performances from numerous popular South African artists such as Villosoul, Gina Jeanz, and DJ Buhle.
All events are sponsored by Beatport and Qwest TV. Organizers are also using the series to raise awareness for Bridges For Music, a nonprofit organization that helps foster music communities in developing countries based in South Africa.
The first event begins on February 10th, 2022 at 8:00 AM PST. Those interested can stream the series through Beatport or Qwest TV.
