In celebration of what would have been DJ Frankie Knuckles‘ 67th birthday, London-based house label SoSure Music released a track from his Director’s Cut project.

Around his passing in March of 2014, Knuckles and his long-term collaborator Eric Kupper worked together under the Director’s Cut moniker. Through the project, they helped produce a concept album for singer Inaya Day. One track titled “Right Now” featuring Robin S remained unfinished after Knuckles’ passing.

Originally, the track only appeared as an exclusive song on the compilation album Tales From Beyond the Tone Arm. Now, ten years later, it’s getting a standalone release on Knuckles’ birthday. It’s available as a digital download and to play on streaming services; remixes along with a 12′-inch vinyl release will arrive later this year.

Francis Nichols, A.K.A. Frankie Knuckles, was a highly influential and well-respected artist in the Chicago house music scene. His work helped popularize the genre, and in 1997 he won a Grammy Award for “Remixer of the Year, Non-Classical.” Many call him the “Godfather of House Music,” and some of his equipment is currently displayed in the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library alongside customers worth by Earth, Wind, & Fire.

Those interested in purchasing “Right Now” can do so here.
