A museum dedicated to electronic music is set to open in April 2022 in Frankfurt.
Originally set to open in October of 2021, the Museum of Modern Electronic Music (MOMEM) is now aiming for an April 6th opening. The original date was delayed due to a lack of funding.
To commemorate the opening, MOMEM will launch with an exhibition titled “Sven Väth – It’s Simple To Tell What Saved Us From Hell.” The project is a collaboration between influential DJ and producer Sven Väth and visual artist Tobias Rehberger. It will feature items from Väth’s personal archives such as records, photos and flyers. On April 8th, Väth will visit MOMEM in person for a large public opening party.
Speaking about the opening day exhibit, MOMEM director Alex Azary said, “There is no better opening exhibition for MOMEM. Because Sven Väth and Tobias Rehberger have each, in their own way, taken electronic music culture from Frankfurt to the world.”
“MOMEM will be a place to explore, conserve and relive the historical dimensions of electronic music,” according to their website. The museum will include numerous interactive exhibits, a library containing large amounts of electronic music, and live performance areas. The building itself will be wrapped in a wall of sound waves that passersby can manipulate. They can also access music and live performances via Bluetooth.
