After 19 years of operation, popular Tokyo music venue ageHa is set to close after its lease expires in January 2022.
The venue played hoststo a wide array of local and international musical acts over the years, including Richie Hawtin, Armin Van Buuren, The Chemical Brothers, DJ Nobu, and many others. Usen Studio Coast, owner of the venue and the larger seafront studio complex that houses it in Shinkiba, Koto City, announced ageHa’s closure in a tweet.
“We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the many customers who have visited us and to everyone who has supported us,” the English translation reads.
ageHa made its own announcement in a website blog post.
“Although our activities at ”STUDIO COAST” will be coming to an end, we will continue to use our unique brand of ‘ageHa’ to offer new events and projects both domestically and internationally, regardless of location, in order to inspire you,” the translation of the blog post reads. Hinting at future events, ageHa still has not confirmed whether the project will seek out a new venue, or host events in spaces elsewhere.
To round things out for 2021, ageHa will hold its 19th anniversary celebrations in November. The formal closing party will be held at the end of January 2022.
