No new COVID-19 infections have been reported in connection to a June pilot event on the Balearic island of Ibiza.

The event was held at Hard Rock Hotel on June 25th and hosted 1,236 attendees – mostly fully vaccinated key workers donning masks. Diario de Ibiza reports that “there was no COVID infection” among the attendees. Those who were not vaccinated or did not present a negative PCR test were tested onsite.

“The results show that the pilot test has been a success and that safe leisure can be enjoyed,” said José Luis Benítez of the Ibiza Leisure Association. “We have shown that this is the way forward to finally open the regulated leisure offer and so that people can be monitored in the event of an outbreak, as opposed to what we are seeing in illegal parties, where attendees cannot be identified and also become real sources of contagion.”

There was a spike in positive COVID-19 cases in Ibiza earlier this month, which led U.K. officials to consider removing Ibiza and the other Balearic islands from their own travel “green list.” As a result of the islands’ current standing on that list, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced a requirement for all U.K. travelers to present a negative COVID-19 test or proof of vaccination upon arrival to the Balearic islands.
