As the city of Chicago continues easing COVID-19 restrictions, local nightclub Spybar has announced its first series of shows in 16 months beginning on July 9th.

Taking to Instagram on June 22nd, Spybar posted, “July 9th – Spybar Returns! (We’ve missed you)” along with the details of two sets of weekend shows. The lineup includes Chicago-area DJ/producer Gene Farris playing from open to close this Friday. Anthony Attalla also joins Incorrect Music for a showcase alongside Carlo Lio on Saturday. Proof of vaccination is required for all shows.

The announcement follows the State of Illinois’ June 11th executive order allowing businesses to operate without mask mandates. Spybar isn’t the first venue to host a series of reopening events. Last weekend, house and techno club Smartbar welcomed dancers back with a series of 6 sold-out shows.

Chicago continues seeing signs of improvement, with COVID-19 positivity rates dropping down to 0.6% as of June 23rd. In an effort to vaccinate more residents, officials announced a series of incentives including one-day Lollapalooza passes and $50 GrubHub gift cards.
