In March, Barcelona festival Sónar was forced to cancel for its second year in a row due to safety measures imposed on account of the COVID-19 pandemic. Yesterday, organizers revealed the first phase of confirmed artists for the 2022 event, announcing over 100 names.
Headliners and supporting acts include The Chemical Brothers, Joy Orbison, Oneohtrix Point Never, Arca, Jamz Supernova, DJ Python, AJ Tracey, Skee Mask, Jayda G, and a slew of others. Sónar is slated for June 16th-18th, 2022 at Fira Montjuic and Fira Gran Via.
The Sónar organizers have also announced two new gatherings taking place in late 2021. S+T+ARTS AI And Music Festival will be held October 27th-28th, followed by SónarCCCB on October 29th-30th. Both festivals will have in-person and digital elements, but no lineup details have been shared with the public at the time of writing.
Sónar debuted in 1994, the brainchild of music journalist Ricard Robles and artists Enric Palau and Sergio Caballero. It initially took place at the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona by day and Sala Apolo by night, although recent years have seen the flagship festival move to the Fira Montjuïc facilities at Plaza d’Espanya.
More information is available on Sónar’s official website.
