Switzerland has not seen a public event with a capacity greater than 1,000 people since February 2020, following lockdown measures instituted by the Swiss government in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. That’s set to change beginning June 1st, when large-scale events will be legally allowed to begin once again.
From that date forward, events with a capacity of up to 3,000 people will be allowed. Provided that there isn’t a resurgence of confirmed cases within the country in the foreseeable future, Switzerland will also begin holding events of up to 10,000 attendees beginning September 1st.
The plan falls in line with the Swiss government’s protection scheme for events, which would cover all cancellation costs for events taking place from June 1st through April 30, 2022, should such a resurgence in COVID-19 cases take place.
A return to large-scale gatherings appears imminent, but attendees will be required to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test upon entry. A small test run of events that will loosen the emergency restrictions is also slated to take place sometime in the midsummer – but as most festivals and large gatherings for the year have already been postponed to 2022, it seems that full normalcy for events in Switzerland will not return until next year.
