Since 1985, the DMC World DJ Championships have been a staple in the turntablist community and beyond. Last year, the event was forced to be moved online due to safety regulations surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, organizers have announced the next iteration of the annual competition, and the 2021 series of events will take place online once again.
DMC Founder Tony Prince told the DJ Times that organizers had been working hard to curate a new series of events for 2021, rather than DMC “shrink[ing] into the COVID shadows.”
“With travel and continuing social restrictions in the way, we have gathered our sponsors to ensure that you can be faced with challenges to stretch your talents and originality and build your global reputation,” said Prince. “The companies who have long serviced the World’s DJs with new technology are right by your side.” One such company is Technics, the official sponsor of The DMC World DJ Championships.
Along with the competition events, which include an All-Vinyl Championship, Beat Juggling Championship, a “Battle For World Supremacy,” and more, special panels, the event will offer workshops and DMC history segments.
The DMC DJ competitions are free to enter for any DJ, of any age, around the globe. For more information, or to sign up, visit DMCDJChamps.com.
