In early April, Detroit techno veteran Tim Baker passed away at age 53. It has been announced that a public viewing will take place tomorrow, April 15th, in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
The service will be held at Nie Funeral Home on 2400 Carpenter Road from 5:30 PM-8:00 PM. According to 5 Magazine, a “celebration of life for” for Baker has also been planned to take place earlier in the day in Chicago.
Baker collapsed during his performance for a charity live stream event in Chicago, according to a statement. He was taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital, where he passed away. No cause of death has been disclosed to the public at the time of writing.
Tim Baker was a fixture of Detroit techno since as long ago as his first residency from 1987-1988. He started his Elephanthaus clothing brand and music label in the ’90s, and in 1998 he relocated to Chicago to launch a more house-focused imprint called Real Estate Records with his girlfriend. He maintained a steady output of releases all the way up to his untimely death.
“Tim Baker’s family is heartbroken over his loss…” reads part of the statement. “…Tim made memories as we danced, reading our musical thoughts like the mystic he was. Tim is a sound ancestor now.”
