The global electronic music community mourns the loss of Tim Baker. The Detroit DJ and producer passed away suddenly on April 4th.
Baker’s death was confirmed by friends and supporters on social media. Only the night before, he had performed the closing slot on a live stream event hosted by Chicago collective Dissorder. No cause of death has been disclosed to the public at the time of writing.
Remembering Tim Baker
Born and raised in Detroit, Tim Baker took up DJing in the ’80s. 5 Magazine notes that he locked in his first residency from 1987-1988, and he went on to perform at legendary Berlin club Tresor in 1994.
Baker started a clothing brand called Elephanthaus in the early ’90s that evolved into a techno label where he released his debut record, the Black Machines EP, in 1997. The following year, he and his girlfriend relocated to Chicago and launched a house label called Real Estate Records.
Social media outpouring points to Baker remaining a beloved and well-respected fixture of the worldwide electronic music community up until his untimely death. Most recently, he delivered a melodic techno remix of London artist Álvaro Pastore‘s “A Place For Rolls” that released on Crazy Addict Germany March 17th.
No memorial details for Tim Baker have been shared with the public at the time of writing.
