Puremagnetik’s latest plugin, Antoka, is an all in one bit-crusher, AM/FM crossover and resampler built to distort audio musically.
Antoka takes its inspiration from guitar pedals that employ ring modulation, distortion and envelope following. The combination provides tough, gritty bit-crushing to its extremes or light AM overtones for a more lo-fi sound.
The “TRACK” feature pitches incoming signals to the ring modulator, ideal for vocals or drum modeling. “CIPHER” changes the amount of resolution modulation of audio signal to provide more video game-like tones. “DOWNLINK,” a gain detection and envelope feature, follows the incoming signal Antoka receives.
Antoka applies the effects over a set period of time. An LFO feature connects Antoka’s modulation timing to the DAW’s BPM or can freely run for more complex timing and control. Rounding out Antonka’s powerful features is an amplitude and frequency modulator crossfader for jumping between modern and vintage tones.
Antoka is a part of Puremagnetik’s Spark subscription service. For $9 monthly (or $89 yearly), Puremagnetik provides a new plugin for its members. The plugin is then available for $20 after the debut month.
Puremagnetik was founded by New York artist Micah Frank in 2006. The company’s focus is music software creation and releasing sound and field recordings.
