Chicago label and rare groove purveyor Star Creature Universal Vibrations has unearthed a handful of sought-after funk/soul classics for a new record, The Chicago Boogie Volume 2: This Love Will Last.
The compilation begins with Special Touch‘s 1983 single “Shakin’ Your Body (Poppin’ Your Thang),” which 5 Magazine notes is a holy grail of sorts for rare groove collectors. the Kool Hersh edit of “Sugar Baby Your Love” comes next, followed by On Stage‘s alternate mix of “Hooked On Your Love.” The effort closes out with the TZ edit of “Dance” by Kareem Rashad, rounding out the veritable time capsule of pre-house Chicago music.
Star Creature Universal Vibrations has been responsible for a staggering output of music in only five years of operations. In addition to rereleases of specialty funk, soul, boogie and disco classics, the label run by TZ (real name Tim Zawada) provides a platform for works by contemporary artists with a nostalgic sound akin to that of its rare groove offerings.
The Chicago Boogie Volume 2: This Love Will Last is sold out in 12-inch vinyl record format. Digital purchases can be made via Star Creature Bandcamp.
